John Cosmos will be patrolling right field for the Dons this year. One of the best hitters on the club, he is expected to be the team's long ball threats.

All of USF's runs were scored in the last four innings. One run was scored in the sixth on hits by Bill Curran and John Cosmos and a Pepperdine error. In the seventh, Bruce Zimmerman squeezed home Randy Zanze, who had walked and advanced to third on Gary Senn's single to right. In the eighth, Randy Zanze's single drove home Cosmos for USF's fourth run. Run scoring hits by John Cosmos and Bill Downing gave the Don's two runs in the ninth.

With two outs in the eighth, USF behind Bruce Zimmerman were ahead 3-1, but before the third out could be recorded, the Broncos had pulled ahead 4-3. They added another run off John Saunders in the ninth to make it 5-3. USF had taken the lead on Jon Cosmos's two run homer; he also drove home the fourth Don tally in a ninth inning rally. In that ninth inning USF had men on first and third with two outs, when Coach Benedetti called for a delayed steal. The game ended when the runner was thrown out at the plate (TheFoghorn).
