It was the second match this season that the Dons have been victimized on the eighteenth green. In their second match of the campaign, the Dons were decisioned by San Jose State March 7th, due to a freakish incident. Hilltopper Tim Lister had chipped his ball within two inches of the cup as his Spartan opponent prepared for a five-foot putt attempt. Given the option to mark Lister's ball or let it lie, the State links man wisely left the ball in its present position. He then tapped his own ball towards the cup; it ricocheted off Lister's ball, and veered into the hole.
The second quarter saw Head Coach Ron Pierceall begin to use his reserves freely. The Machine's efficiency continued, however, and the defense, superb all afternoon, literally banged a score out of the harried Highlanders when Dan Schultz and Jim Klazak brutally nailed quarterback Bill Corey in his own end zone attempting to pass. Corey, only human, fumbled and Tim Lister recovered for a well-earned score (TheFoghorn).
