A native of Richmond, Del Simone graduated in 1952 in Business. At USF he was a member of the Maraschi Club, and Veterans Club, and the Evening Division Student Council.

At the Presidio of San Francisco, the Dons defeated the Presidio team 8 to 4. Al Streuli, the winning pitcher, went the route allowing seven hits. The game was enlivened by three double plays. The first was a fast ground ball to third base, fielded by Bill Shannahan who zipped the pellet to Pete Maloney who rifled the ball to first basemen Reno De Benedetti. The second double play was another ground ball, which second baseman Pengle threw to Benedetti who threw to Shanahan, who caught the Army runner trying to stretch to third base. The third twin killing was a long fly to Ernie Del Simone whose beautiful throw to catcher Bill Reed, caught the Presidio runner who was tagging up after the catch.

The Hilltoppers crossed the plate twice in the first inning as Del Simone walked, Hall bashed out a solo to left, and both crossed the dish as Schramka belted out a one baser. They added five more tallies on four hits in the third, when Granitz and Del Simone singled and came in on Rotar's wallop. Vevoda followed with a single and Jim Rose brought both in with a timely knock into center. Three more scored in the fourth as Rotar doubled, Vevoda banged a single into center, and Eddie Hanna, whose bat has suddenly exploded in the last few contests, poled one far and deep into right center field near the fence which the center fielder laid a glove on but could not hold. The Newellmen finished up the parade of runs in the fifth. Del Fisk soloed into left, Del Simone walked, Hall singled, the ball getting away from the outfielder, two runs scoring (TheFoghorn).
