Both men were offensive standouts in thc series. Dakin roped two home runs as McMillan and Scott Taylor added one each. Greg Wieser pitched 8 and 2/3 strong innings and got no decision on Friday. Ron Herbert is nursing a bad back and the Dons turned their first triple play of thc year.

Thc Dons squandered two scoring opportunities as Jeff McMillan (.417 in league and 4-for-6 on the day) was thrown out at the plate twice, but showed poise as a team in rebounding from a 4-to-1 deficit. "Last year's team couldn't have rebounded from this. The guys showed we can play the game," commented an optimistic Coach Bowman. Unfortunately, the extra inning loss in game one set a tone for the series. The Dons looked sluggish in squandering a 3-to-1 lead before eventually losing 6-to-4. Scott Taylor was the only offense the Dons would get in the day's first game as he stroked a two run single in the fourth, and added a solo home run in the seventh. Dave LaRosa, going into the game fourth in the conference with a 1.93 earned run average, took the loss. USF looked even worse in the second game of the double-header as the Wolfpack scored six runs in the opening three innings off senior Ed Paulus. Brian Dakin stroked his third home run in league play, a two run shot, accounting for the only offense of the game for the Dons. Good news for the Dons was that Ron Ardissone and Ted Langowski, slowly recovering from early season injuries, pitched two innings each in the 12-to-2 loss. The Dons, realizing this wasn't to be their week, got off to a slow start on Sunday as Reno scored six first inning runs off Dave Ahem. Ahem was lifted for Derek Dowd who gave up four earned runs over the next four innings. The Dons made a comeback, highlighted by home runs by Brian Dakin and Jeff McMillan, but the comeback fell short as Reno won 13-to-9. USF showed the ability to gel to the top in the WCAC. After being swept by Reno, the Dons have fallen back into the realms of the mediocre. The real test lies ahead for the Dons. Coach Bowman says "We still have a couple of things to prove (TheFoghorn)."
