At first base, Ed Hanna from last year's team has an edge over freshman Reno De Benedetti while Jerry Saughnessy, Don Gordon and Andre Chicourrat are vying for the keystone position. Shortstop is a tossup between Jay Hollander, a transfer from California, and Pete Maloney, a Mission High product. Both boys are good fielders and hit just about the same. Dippy Matteucci and Frank Boland will possibly alternate as catchers, for they are the men with the most experience.

University of San Francisco baseball team finished their scheduled season with an 8-1 victory over San Francisco State College, in a game played at Seal's Stadium Wednesday afternoon. Lanky Con Dempsey held the State batters to seven scattered hits, while Don swatters proceeded to tarnish the record of SF State's highly touted pitcher, Jim Keating, as they collected twelve safeties. Despite the fact that the Dons committed five errors they won easily. This can be attributed to the improved hitting of the Hilltoppers in general, and especially to the continued fine swatting form of frosh star Ed Hanna, team Capt. Andre Chicourrat, and Bill Moore, ace right fielder. The win over State made it three in a row for the Dons and placed them in a much better position to be the first team in the history of the University to receive block letters for their efforts (TheFoghorn).
