A lack of rebounding, plus the fact that throughout most of the game they played a brand of watered-down ball, killed any attempt of the frosh to pull out a victory. The only factor which kept the Dons in on the contest was the brilliant floor game of guards Norton and Connolly. Norton and Connolly hit timely set shots from deep in the corner to keep the game from becoming a rout.

The fans are still talking about a strong Woolpert second team of Bill Connelly, John Cunningham, Dave Lillevand, Bob Radanovich, and Charley Russell. Jerry Robinson was also instrumental in making tonight's contest a slaughter. The second squad outscored Chico's first club 31-23 in the second half, and the Dons continued to pull away from Gene Maxey's outclassed Chico Staters 18-3 during the second ten minutes of the game. Little Al Dunbar, the only 1st stringer to appear in the second half, proved to be the sparkplug when he replaced Bill Mallen and went in to add eight more digits to the USF score (TheFoghorn).
