The second half began and the aggression began to take its toll on the women of USF. Becky Randolph suffered a chipped bone in her finger and Celine Watters took a good shot to the eye. As the lead for Modesto increased, USF got the fever for hard play, and the female dynamo duo of the "Thumper" and Ann Job combined to make Modesto scrap for their points. Maria Bacigalupo turned in a fine defensive effort in sticking to a Modesto star like glue, and holding down her point production. Judy Frates thrilled the crowd with a consecutive pair of 18 foot jumpers in the 3rd period.

Two members of the women's basketball team spoke to the Sporting News about their reactions to the past basketball season and their participation in the women's basketball program. "I heard about it from people who were on the team," commented senior Judy Frates. "I had played last year and I decided that it would be fun to play again this year." Frates and her teammate, senior Colette Liedlich, are both Resident Assistants in Hayes-Healy. How much time did basketball take up? "Well," replied Liedlich, "we had practice every Monday and Wednesday in Loyola Gym. Most of the time it was just practice games — you know, scrimmages and stuff. We practiced two hours a day, and then we had the games at night." One would imagine that two basketball seasons running concurrently might produce some conflicts. "Not really," said Frates. "Most of the flack we got was from the Intramurals teams who wanted us out of the gym so they could play or practice. They didn't exactly try to shove as out or anything, but you could tell that they were waiting for us to get through." When asked about the reaction of the men's team to another basketball program on campus, both girls waxed eloquent. "The guys have been pretty good," said Liedlich. "A lot of times they would come down to watch us play, and every now and then they'd offer a few hints to John (Chitmon) (TheFoghorn)."
