For the women, Maureen Kennedy finished the four-mile women's course in 19:32, the top USF runner for second straight meet. The Dons, deep in numbers, placed nine other runners in the top 50, led by Laura Kuzminsky 27th-place time and Beth Thomas's 32nd-place finish. The Dons early season success, while no surprise to Drocco, has not come without struggle. Drocco said that he has stepped up the recruiting, has demanded more time from his Assistant Coaches and runners, and that the team returned to school in great shape. The result, said Drocco, is a new beginning for his program. "I think this is one of the best teams I've ever had," he said. "Now we can run 'em."

The USF women's cross country team placed, fourth at the West Coast Conference Championship meet last Saturday, Oct. 31 in Santa Clara at the Broncos' Crystal Springs course. The fourth place finish was the best result by a USF women's team since 1995 when San Francisco also ended the season in the fourth spot. USF accumulated 112 team points, 13 shy of third-place Gonzaga's 99. San Diego's women's team made a surprising move in the final regular season meet, finishing second behind conference champion Portland. Just last week, at the Santa Clara Invitational, USF had defeated San Diego on the Crystal Springs course. The Dons grouped their position runners in the 6th ,23rd ,25th, 27th and 31st spots, with senior Maureen Kennedy recording the best team time of the day at 19:17. Rounding out the position runners were juniors Myriam Camhi (23/20:40), and Beth Thomas (25/20:44), and sophomores Alison Lamkin (27/20:52), and Amy Lam (31/21:11) (TheFoghorn).
