Play will begin Saturday in Kezar Pavilion for the sixth annual Women's Bay Area Pro-Am Basketball League.
Top college and amateur players will take part in the league, which runs each Saturday through Aug. 12. During the regular season, games will start at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The regular season ends July 29, with the playoffs on the following three Saturdays.
Collegians playing include Carolyn Moos and Lindsey Yamasake from Stanford; twins Jerkisha and Jermisha Dosty of St. Mary's; Kiki Williams, Courtney Johnson and Lauren Ashbaugh from Cal; Annie Garrison, Ashley Hill and Stephanie Rodgers from Santa Clara; and Rachel Mahar, Krista Knapp and Renee Demirdjian from USF (SFChronicle).Â
"We feel really good about the center position," Hite-Nepfel said. "Either Rachel or Kim will make a great contribution. The only problem will be keeping them out of foul trouble." Both players were 6' 4".
With regard to the addition of height in the front court, Hile-Nepfel was optimistic, noting that the Dons "height can run." Mahar was a redshirt at USF last year after transferring from UC Santa Barbara where she played in all 30 games as a freshman. Mahar and Whisker will share scoring and rebounding duties with Wanless (USFFoghorn).
