Roy Rice

Roy Rice was born LeRoy Byron Wingfield on July 2, 1926 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Roy graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1944 where he lettered in three sports: baseball, football, and basketball. He was elected Class President and Valedictorian in his senior year. After graduation, Roy served in the Navy until the conclusion of WWII.

Rice then attended COM, where he helped lead his basketball team to the NJCAA title in 1948. He transferred to USF, where he played basketball under Coach Pete Newell, who led the Dons to the NIT Championship in 1949. Roy graduated from USF Law School in 1952 and became a trial lawyer in San Francisco, specializing in Medical Malpractice and Family Law. During the course of his career, Roy partnered with renowned SF attorney Vincent Hallinan among others, and served as President of the SF chapter of A.B.O.T.A and President of SFTLA. Roy was a well respected trial attorney and practiced law in S.F. for nearly 60 years and served on numerous boards. Roy was a long time member of the M.V. Tennis Club. Roy was inducted into the Marin Hall of Fame in 2010.
