Del Fisk played a brilliant game at quarterback for the Dons, but the Freshman was unable to rally his team to victory. "Clipper"' had said he would miss the services of Jimmy Ryan and he was proved correct. Nevertheless, it was just a case of a good team being beaten by a very good team.

In 1946 the picture has changed, however. Under its new coach "Clipper" Smith, the Hilltoppers promise to be one of the most colorful and strongest teams on the West Coast or in the nation. "Clipper" has announced that he will employ a two-unit system, the wealth of material making it possible to field two equally strong elevens. In the starting backfield there will be Forrest Hall, Vince Pacewic, Harmon Rowe, and Jimmy Ryan. Unit Two will see Hal Jensen, Terry Rice, Del Fisk, and Fred Shew doing most of the work. In the line, tackles are Carroll Vogelaar, and Johnny Sanchez; the guard spots are manned by Ed Kaminsky, and John Burke, with Harry Skoog at center. The wingmen are less certain, but Grbovaz and Weber hold the inside track. Unit two linemen are deep in reserves, but Ed Sprano and Ed Roseborough look well at tackle. Jim Daugherty and three others are vying for guard, and Paul Irvine, Ed Cremen and George Young will see much action at center. Jack Miller and Ed Snyder have been showing well at end (TheFoghorn).
