John "Happy" Chambers

John “Happy” Howard Chambers was born on May 19, 1913 in San Francisco. He attended USF in the class of 1934, and at 5' 6", 150 lbs., played basketball for the Dons. He was a member of Phi Kappa and the Block Club. He was a member of the USF Alumni Association.  

Chambers worked as a supervisor for the United States Postal Service, and served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945.  He was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 1978.

These men are recognized as first-string material. Among the others are Charley Nussbaum, John Mohr, Bill Wright, Happy Chambers, Jack Kincannon, Lefty Bot- male, Emmet Keefe, Brad Buckner and many other members of last year's championship frosh. The real training grind does not start until after football season is over, but at the present time the boys are training their eyes on the hoop and loosening up tight muscles. Well, here's to the best year the Gray Fog has ever had in a basketball way. This seems rather a rash statement to make, but If the candidates live up to their expectations It is a cinch that this IS the year (TheFoghorn).
