"Clipper" Smith will be in Sam Francisco around Dec 14, it was announced by the Athletic Department. This is the man who will lead the Dons on the road to athletic supremacy. However, a few fellows have caught his eye. These cagemen are Don Giesen and Sherman Heaney, forwards; Johnny Desmond, Walt Kolling, and Ivan Slavich at guards.
John Desmond is the little ball-of-fire that Coach Bussenius has dubbed "Peanuts." In his highest heels Ivan only reaches up to the heavens to the tune of 5' 6". But those of you who have ever seen him in action, know what he can do with that minimum amount of height. It would be no exaggeration to say that if Ivan were 6" taller he would outclass Lusetti or Pollard. At S.I. he made all-city 30s, and was the class of the league in the pass and defense department. There is no one who can out speed Ivan, who has the amazing ability to start at a moment's notice, steal the ball and be away for a score. When interviewed, we asked the "Little Mayor," what are the team's chances. He said, "The team is developing well; we'll do our best."
