Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines volley as a burst of simultaneous or immediately sequential nerve impulses passing to an end. Mary Carlson, a new member of the Dons team, can do that, and many others very well on the court. Mary, a twenty year-old Political Science major and transfer from San Diego State University, has proven herself worthy of being the Dons #1 setter. But why did she leave San Diego State? It is a large, public school with a pretty good volleyball team and many opportunities to offer a student-athlete. Her reason for leaving may have had something to do with her playing behind All-American Kim Takus of SDSU. When asked why she left she replied, "I was frustrated because I didn't play much." Whatever her reason, she appears to be happy with her decision to attend USF. "I have to work harder in the classroom here, but the climate for studying is better (TheFoghorn)."
