Finnerty Gag: The best Gag 'o the Week again came from Earl Finnerty in the ball game. Making a tackle directly in front of the Bulldog bench and assistant coach Crosby, he barked to the crooner, "Hey Bing, how about autographing my knee-guard?" Crosby was so tickled at the crack that he related it to Coach Malley after the game. Highly significant was the unanimous verdict on Bing Crosby and Connie Boswell who trained to Oakland with the Dons. The Hollywooders are tops.
That midway in the Santa Clara tussle, Earl Finnerty, of the Bulldog voice, said to Phil Dougherty very coyly, "Guess I'm better than Calvelli, huh Dougherty?" . . That Walt Dietz knocked Dougherty down with a hard block and continued his block on the greensward? That Dougherty looked up with a very disgusted look on his face and chirped, "You can get up now, punk, the coach ain't looking"? That the varsity went through a terrific workout on Monday? That Beggs and Finnerty were discussing the game and the workout from the side lines? That Beggs asked: "Gee, I wonder why they're scrimmaging so hard?" That Finnerty answered, "What's the matter with you, Beggs; didn't you read the sport sections this morning (TheFoghorn)?"
