USF was in Reno last weekend where the weather played a large factor. Near freezing temperatures along with the wind blowing out helped the Wolf Pack register a 16-10 victory in the opener. Don's pitchers gave up 17 hits and the Dons defense surrendered 4 errors. The Dons split Saturday's doubleheader, winning the wild nightcap 10-9 as Jim O'Shea went six innings to pick up his third win. He then had to sit back and watch the five-run lead he had forged evaporate. His thoughts on the bench typify the snakebitten Diamond Dons of '87. "I sat back and I was ready to lose," O'Shea said.
Jim O'Shea, a senior pitcher and resident senator of the squad, best sums up the team's overall opinion of Nomicos. Says the pitcher, "Dino's just a great back," and a great coach, and a great recruiter. The Diamond Dons (6-12) were outclassed in a 7-0 loss to Stanford Tuesday, but they opened their league respectably. USF is 1-1 in the WCAC alter splitting a pair with Nevada-Reno. Mike Supple and Jim O'Shea shutout the Wolfpack in the second game 4-0, with pitching performances that had Coach Bowman doing flips (TheFoghorn).
