  • Class
    1947
  • Honors
    Baseball (1943-1947), Men's Basketball (1943)
Francis Boland was a native of San Francisco and graduated with a Bachelors in Business.  He was a member of the Dons Sodality Club, played varsity baseball for the Dons, and enlisted in the Marine Corps following graduation.

The basketball team was no less great than the football squad. Jim Needles took over the coaching: Kelly, Ed Dias, Con Dempsey, Frank Boland, Bill Ahern, Frank Corrigan, Warren Foley, and Paul Harless.

Dippy Matteucci and Frank Boland will possibly alternate as catchers, for they are the men with the most experience. Dippy's average is not too high, but as Newell points out, he comes through when the hits count. Boland is a transfer from College of the Pacific where he was captain of that school's 1944 team.

James R. Needles, Director of Athletics, announced today that 16 USF athletes will receive their awards, and that five other athletes are being considered for blocks in track. Those receiving blocks in baseball are: Frank Boland, Con Dempsey, Jack McCarthy, Ed Hanna, Ed Dias, Dan Maher, Frank Donohue, BiU Moore John McCaU and Bill Renna (TheFoghorn).
