The young Dons bounced back with 8 runs in the second inning, led by a two-run triple by Ron "Bagel" Herbert. Wayne Richelle was able to hold Hayward to one run in the ninth, to preserve the victory, and give the Dons an even 9-9-1 record. Ron "Bagel" Herbert was the standout of the game with a stellar four for five performance. His current baiting average is .404. "I'm glad he's (Herbert) playing well because he works so hard," stated Bowman.

Jim West, Rick Dardis, and Brian Dakin, all junior transfers, are all capable of the task. Returning for his senior season is designated hitter Ron Herbert, who was among the league leaders in batting average last season, and was a member of the West Coast Athletic Conference All League Team. USF plays in the WCAC, one of the toughest leagues in the country. For the Dons to compete successfully, the pitching staff must pitch at top form. "We only have eight pitchers. We're going to need to pitch very well to win," remarks Bowman. As far as hitting, "I know we can hit" says Bowman adding "the lead off batters must get on so Arnie (Sambel) and Ronnie (Herbert) can drive them home. (TheFoghorn)."
