The men's rowing team has two female coxswains, Carla Gruhn and Kelly McLean. There's more. How does this sound? — Spending a sunny Spotlight Cast morning or afternoon by the Bay getting a head start on your tan while watching a streamlined shell glide across the glassy surface of the water.

Despite a lack of runners due to injury, thc USF Dons cross country teams ran good races the past two weeks in Santa Clara and Hayward. Both races were predominantly flat which seems to favor both the men and the women. In Santa Clara, Andrea Stouffer and Carla Gruhn both placed in the top 10, while in Hayward, Doug Pajer finished sixth.

The University of San Francisco women athletes received recognition for the dedication, and sacrifices made for their sport at a dinner banquet Sunday night in the Parina Lounge. After a catered dinner, each coach spoke of all members of their team and presented their Most Valuable Student-Athlete awards. The players were judged on the criteria of their athletic contribution and leadership qualities. The recipients are as followed: Cross Country: Carla Gruhn, Soccer: Shanna Haines, Volleyball: Kim Gray and Kathy Hold, Basketball: Alice Solis, Tennis: Erin O'Neill, Softball: Cheryl Gonzalez (TheFoghorn).
