Hernandez graduated in 1982 in Psychology. She was voted Most Promising Athlete. She also played Flag Football.
The next batter tried to sacrifice, but USF had a pick off play at second with center-fielder Michelle Hernandez covering. However, the pickoff throw sailed past Hernandez and into centerfield, where no one was there to back the play up. By the time Linda Fischer managed to retrieve the ball, the only two runs of the game had been scored.
Going into the bottom of the sixth, the score was tied at 1-1. Cathy McCoy started the inning by getting hit with a pitch. Michelle Hernandez forced McCoy with a grounder to third, and then proceeded to steal second and third, putting the lead run just sixty feet from home plate with one out. Mariane Chamberlin hit a perfectly placed ground ball to the right side that brought the eventual winning run home (TheFoghorn).
