Kjell Tvedt was born in Norway and attended USF in the class of 1977. He was a 1975 NCAA National Champion and a 1975 West Coast Intercollegiate Soccer Conference Champion. Tvedt made an assist to teammate Andy Atuegbu who scored the only goal of the second half to win the NCAA National Championship. In 1976 he again was a NCAA champion with a 20-2-3 overall record and 7-1-2 WCISC record under Head Coach Steve Negoesco. In 1977 he was named as a Pacific Soccer Conference Champion with a 25-3-1 overall record and a 5-0-0 PSC record.

Tvedt now lives in Norway. He was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 1992.

The Titans ranked second on the West Coast, right behind the number one Dons as they had to defeat third ranked Colorado College to advance to the finals. Against UCLA, the Dons took an early lead in the first half on a 20 yard goal by senior forward and co-captain Victor Arbalaez. In the second half, the Bruins tied it on a head shot, off a corner kick for the lone UCLA score. But junior Bjorn Skagen struck twice on great goals with the assists coming from Mai Roche and Paul Korn. Junior midfielder Kjell Tvedt added icing to the cake by scoring a goal after receiving a beautiful pass from Jim Boyle, to make the final score 4-1 in favor of the Green and Gold.

Coach Steven Negoesco added depth to his defense by using seven other defensive wizards, namely: senior fullback Misak Pirinjian, Junior All-American Andy Atuegbu, fellow Nigerian Tony Igwe, along with the Norwegian line of freshman: Jan Erick Skaug, sophomore Bjorn Dahl, junior Kjell Tvedt, and senior Tom Tronstad.
Perhaps the biggest key was the midfield control by Andy Atuegbu, Kjell Tvedt and Anthony Gray. All three provided a ball control that was second to none. The Don man-to-man not only led to the successful defense of the NCAA crown but many new team records as well (TheFoghorn).
