The Dons racked up another run in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh for the eleven run output. Pitcher Dick Lawless of the Dons was retired in the sixth inning and Bob Vigo came on to finish the last three innings allowing the Gators two runs and two hits.
The Green and Gold got another in the fifth. Buzz Cassazza and Joe Arenivar singled and Paul Torrente drew a free pass. Bechelli flied to left to send Cassazza home on the tag-up. In the seventh Saint Mary's closed the gap to 5-4 but the Dons added four security runs in the eighth. Bob Vigo pitched the eighth and ninth, but Walsh was the winning pitcher for the USF club.
Saint Mary's managed to obtain three runs on seven hits off the Dons Bob Vigo and John Walsh. Vigo started for the Dons but was relieved in the fifth by Walsh. Walsh had his stuff, as he struck out four of the first men to face him (TheFoghorn).
