After six grueling weeks, the University of San Francisco's Men's and Women's Cross Country season came to a close the same place it began, at the Crystal Springs Course in Belmont. On one of the more demanding courses on the West Coast, senior Franck Tardivat finished eleventh in the West Coast Conference Championships earning him All-Conference Honors as the Men's team finished sixth in the conference outdistancing Pepperdine and St. Mary's. Senior John Logan finished 27th overall and Freshman Jeff Scharosch 40th as the Don Harriers escaped the cellar for the first time in their history.

The Women's squad was paced by sophomore Kari McCallum's third place finish and for the second year in a row, she earned All-Conference Honors. Sophomore Cindy Donoghue came in 25th but unfortunately the Dons occupy the cellar narrowly missing seventh place by five points.

The program looks optimistic for the future as six members of the Men's squad are freshman and will be expected  to improve in the coming years. The Team will lose Tardivat, Logan, and Pat Mauro to graduation. Tardivat will leave the Hilltop without a doubt, the finest runner in the history of the University. The Women's outlook for next year is just as optimistic as they will only lose one runner, Loretta Fleminb, to graduation, and will retum McCullam who is only expected to get better.

"T'm proud of these kids," said Head Coach John Drocco, "without scholarships they remained dedicated throughout the year and turned in a respectable performance when it counted, they should be commended (USFFoghorn)."
