Major Lake's tennis troopers ran up against a stone wall in their last outing with the UOP Bengals. Although they lost a 5-4 decision, the Dons were in there battling all the way. Bill Eavis and Norm Sauer won their singles matches as well as a combined effort in the doubles category. George Sallaberry, fresh newcomer, snatched his first singles victory of the campaign to account for the fourth win of the match. Brian Rutley suffered still another loss.

Although the team has lost the two top-seeded players, there is a general spirit of revitalization that sums up everyone's attitude. Bolstered by a hard-playing transfer student from San Francisco State, Fred White, the remaining upper echelon of last year's team, composed of Al Barret, Dave Rychel, and Brian Rutley, figure to work out a formidable line-up. Dave Rychel rates as the early season's most improved player while Al Barret is playing his consistent fine-stroking game from last year. Barret is far enough along to have earned himself a spot on one doubles combo with White, who will bring the needed power to offset Barrett's fine, steady play. Brian Rutley is coming along - well and, if he keeps up his daily progress, should be the man to look for on the singles' court, filling in for last year's two starting seniors. George Sallaberry stands as the only question-mark from the veteran's ranks — the question being whether he will play or not. Rounding out the remainder of the team are some fine novices led by Alex Peck, a strong transfer from LA State, and Walt Stone, a very promising Frosh (TheFoghorn).
