The Dons only lost one player to graduation last year. Returning from injuries this year are center, Melinda Harrison, who because of injuries last season, only appeared in five games, as well as forward Karyn Bolger who suffered a stress fracture and missed eleven games. She is expected to miss three weeks of practice but is not scheduled to miss any games. The 1988-1989 starters making their return will be guards Alice Solis and Joy Boyenga, forward-guard Ellen Gordon, and center Jody Bulmer. Reserve forward Robyn King, guard Diane Schnapp, and Valencia Hedgebeth, a center from the College of San Mateo will round out the Don squad. As Coach Nepfel explained, "This is the most talent we have had in years."
USF junior center Marlene Henderson, following a slow season's start erupted for 36 points and 34 rebounds in the tournament, earning her a spot on the All-tournament Team. Senior forward Valencia Hedgebeth added 13 points and 15 rebounds in the two games while junior forward Joy Boyenga totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds (TheFoghorn).
