Behind the plate is senior Greg Eagleton. who has already powered three homers this year. First team All-League selection John Mangiante will direct the outfield in center after batting .330 in 1981. In right is senior Mike Mooney (.274), and in left held Dave Luhrs. Dave Paulus and Al Pasquinelli are also competing for the job.

Catcher Greg Eagleton is congratulated by Al Pasquinelli after socking a three run homer in the 15 run eighth inning on Sunday. The Diamond Dons won the game 18-3, and took two out of three from Nevada-Reno over the weekend.

And if the three previous years are any indication to his performance, Mangiante will deliver. Fellow co-captain Greg Miles will start alongside of Mangiante in left field. There will be quite a fight for playing time among the other outfielders as seniors Al Pasquinelli, Dave Paulus, juniors Dino Nomicos and Mark McGuigan will add their skills to many games. USF faces one of its toughest schedules in recent years. Besides the NCBA schedule, USF will face tough non-conference foes such as Stanford, California, SF State, and Gonzaga.

Al Pasquinelli who has played well in the outfield, has done an outstanding job on the mound in relief with 3 league saves. Designated hitter Steve Scolini leads the team with 7 home runs, over 50 hits, and nearly 50 runs batted in. First basemen Joe Torrise has played brilliantly on defense along with swinging a hot bat. In the infield Christ Kroener and Mike Madsen have played well up Ihe middle defensively, and Tim Fitzpatrick has done a fine job at third base. Fitzpatrick was named as a candidate for Academic All-American. Freshman Rich Morales took over the starting role as catcher and did an outstanding job. Starting pitchers Jeff Dietrich, Don Parks, and Terry McManus have all done a good job. Dietrich leads the pitching corps with 4 league wins. Parks and Manus have suffered several tough luck losses. Bob Reed leads the team in game appearances with 20. On Monday of this week the Dons upset rival Santa Clara by sweeping a doubleheader. Dietrich picked up the win in game one with a score of 4-1. Pasquinelli picked up the save. Parks won the second game with a score of 3-1. Scolini's 7th inning home run blast spurred the Dons to a 3-run 7th inning and a victory (TheFoghorn).
