Catherine McCoy graduated in 1979 in Nursing and was a member of Little Sister, the Student Council, and played Varsity softball, JV basketball, soccer, and cross country. She also played Intramural softball, Intramural volleyball, Flag Football, and was an Intramural Official.
Gene has not decided on the starting line-up for his JV basketball team. He believes that every girl on his team can start. "I believe that the players on the bench are just as much of the game as the players on the court," says Bantay. the team members of the USF Women's Junior Varsity team are: Serprenia Faivs, Elaine Ocelmendy, Aimee Hunter, Cathy McCoy, Bridget Murphy, Linda Fisher, Peggy Klenow, Regina Avateh, Theresa Buencamino, Robin Edwards, Debbie Maconell, Kim Lehman, Ann Silva, and Cathy Hoenbach.
USF's hitting will also be improved if hard-hitting catcher Cathy McCoy recovers from a knee injury suffered last season. When healthy, McCoy is a solid line drive hitter. "So far she has looked great." said Rice. "Cathy went through tremendous rehabilitation during the offseason."
Women's Soccer is a new sport here at USF. Last year's impressive team went undefeated, 9-0-1, under Coach Richard King. Leading scorer was Patty Doyle, who amassed 32 of the 54 goals scored. At the other end of the field, Cathy McCoy held opponents to one goal for the entire season.
This year's women's cross country team has some appreciable talent. Though lacking in an extensive degree of fitness, it is nonetheless "harrier heaven" in this, the second year for women's cross country. Two returnees from last year's pack, Donna Schiller of Santa Rosa, and Teresa Walsh of Arizona, are members of an eleven-member squad that looks determined and eager indeed for the challenges of the hills and the open roads. Most are incoming freshmen "with a lot to learn," states mentor Mike Rice. The runners are: Loretta Lenihan from Los Angeles; Donna Price, who also sees double duty as a Don hoopster; Kim Bachman also a backboard die hard turning to the benefits of romping on the macadam; Sharon Rahill, from New York and El-Paso, also a basketball talent and runner as well; Ann Magner of Marin County; Teresa McGoldrick of Arizona; Cathy McCoy of San Diego, a softball aficionado; Monique Parrish, a marathoner from the dizzying atmosphere of mile-high-plus Denver, Colorado; and Eileen Brennan, a local talent out of Marin Catholic (TheFoghorn).
