John Frederick Joseph Vick played outfield for the dons, and batted and threw right. 6', 185 lbs, he was a native of San Francisco, born on May 9, 1925. He graduated in Marketing in 1950 and entered the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the Block Club.

The Dons jumped into an early lead as Matteucci singled and Hanna did likewise to lead off the game. John Vick, moved up to the cleanup slot, banged out a solo counting both the Dipper and Hanna. Not content with a two run edge, the Hilltoppers came right back in the second frame adding three runs as Chicouratt singled sharply to left, was sacrificed to a second by Pete Maloney filing in for the ill Johnny Rotar, and scored as Matteucci connected for his second single of the game, who in turn, scored himself as Eddie Hanna dropped a short fly that fell at the feet of the right fielder. He scored a few seconds later on an error.

Glaring errors in crucial spots, and wildness on the part of the twirlers settled the issue as early as the third inning when they countered four markers on one base blow. Only bright spots for the Dons was the rounding into form of clean-up sticker John Vick who clouted four blows in five trips to the plate, and the brilliant relief work of Tom Pagee who appeared late in the tilt to strike out nine of the last ten men to face him (TheFoghorn).
