Biography: Wessel played tennis on the Hilltop in 1984. He originally came to USF as a walk-on for the men's basketball team, but shifted to tennis when the men's basketball program was dropped. The tennis coach, Chuck White, recruited Wessel straight off the Lone Mountain courts while he was playing against a women's tennis team member. Wessel played #6 singles and was on the third doubles team in the lineup, and finished his career with a winning record. He was named team MVP at the end of the season.

Why Wessel Chose USF: “I came to USF for the opportunity to earn a business degree in a great city. I came to San Francisco to earn my college degree and never left the City."

Favorite USF Memories: “My doubles partner Shiram Mirroseni was only 5' 5'' tall, and I am 6'6'', we were quite a sight out there on the court, and played well together. I also remember playing a match against Stanislaus State in Turlock, and it turned out to be quite a challenge to play, as we were downwind from a local dairy farm.”

The USF Student-Athlete Experience: “I made lifelong friendships as a student-athlete on the Hilltop. The university provided an emerging diverse and Inclusive environment."

Life After USF: Wessel became a Commercial Insurance Executive in San Francisco. He is a member of The Guardsmen, a San Francisco group helping at-risk children. Wessel leads employee resource groups in the office for LGBTQ and Asian colleagues and allies.
