In running their season record to five wins in seven games, Bob Bayless's nine boasted a pitching staff which limited opponents to only 20 hits in five games. Two-hit jobs by Vince Billante (3-0) and Fred Kara (1-1), the diminutive southpaw from Serra who doubles in the outfield, and a one-hitter by Ken Stone (1-1) highlighted this drive.

Frosh nine continue to roll on their merry way. Their record now stands at 10-2-2, with nine of the victories coming in succession. Paced by the Three Musketeer hurling crew of Vince Billante (5-0), Ken Stone (3-1), and Fred Kara (2-1), the yearlings boast of eight men with averages of .300 or better. Bob Macaluso 2b, and Ron Crivelli lead the stickers with .417 and .388, respectively. Three more games remain on the schedule, which will be completed next week. The Frosh beat the San Mateans 6-1 with the aid of Vince Billante's six-hit hurling and Fred Kara's first-inning double which started them on a lead which they never relinquished.

COACH ANDERSON will start sophomore Fred Kara on the mound today for USF. Kara is known as a "junk" pitcher, keeping the hitters off balance with slow curves, drop balls and sliders. He has average speed and shows good potential (TheFoghorn).
