The USF women's soccer team's goalie, Kristin Haugen, a transfer from Norway, likes her new Phelan suite, and although she lives on the same floor as other athletes she contends that, "it's been pretty quiet." Haugen, who has played soccer since she was six years old, began training for the USF team in the second week of August. Even with a knee injury, she is eager to play later in the season since "the good games come later."
The Dons record dropped to 5-5 last Wednesday afternoon after being shut out 1-0 by visiting Sonoma State (8-1) at Negoesco Stadium. Sonoma out-shot the Dons 13-8. The game remained scoreless until midway through the second half when Sonoma's Jessica Munnell pounded a teammate's deflected shot past USF keeper Kristin Haugen for the first goal scored on her this season. The sophomore goalie made an impressive season debut in the second half of the long awaited match with number one-ranked North Carolina on the 25th, allowing no goals on 15 Tar Heel shots. Haugen's play was one of few bright spots for the over matched Dons in the Carolina game. USF was shut out (4-0) by a UNC squad used to dominating their opposition, raising their record to 7-0 on the year (TheFoghorn).
