Figures released by the Don coaching staff (compiled from on-the-field observations and film checking) have indicated that Ron Centerwall and Dan Martin have had in excess of 4 seconds to get off their passes. This fact shows that the offensive line has been doing its primary job as outlined by coach Vince Tingali—to protect the passer. Such a statement is made more stable when one views the fact that USF passers have been dropped only ten times in seven games so far this year.

It wasn't until halfway through the third quarter when the Dons began to "put it together." An interception by cornerback Tom Montross put the Hilltop offense on the field. On the first play, senior QB Dan Martin tossed a screen pass to halfback Greg Dawidczik for a 45 yard TD—the Don's first of the night. In less than one minute the Dons had the ball again and Martin threw his second TD of the night, this time to split end, Tom Bidegary. Martin tossed two more TD's to Bidegary to account for the Dons 25 points. Both Martin and Bidegary were the school record breakers this week. Bidegary set three new school records grabbing 13 passes for 245 yards receiving three TD's. Martin's four TD's and 345 yards were also two records for USF (TheFoghorn).
