Senior Aaron Jones will probably be called upon as a designated hitter. Jones had a .380 slugging percentage in only 50 at-bats last season.

The Dons record fell to 2-5 with the loss, but pitched well. Pitcher Travis Walters allowed only four hits and struck out seven batters in eight and three quarter innings of work. After a solo homer by Aaron Jones in the second inning, and a RBI single by Heath Haberlin in the seventh, the game remained tied at 2-2 at the end of nine innings.

Davis scored five two-out runs in the sixth inning before USF answered in the seventh off Aaron Jones two-run shot to left field. Haberlin's double in the eighth started USF's final rally that was completed when French drove in Rapposelli with a single. The next day, USF bounced back to defeat the Aggies at Davis off Rapposelli and John Tomasello's hitting and newcomer William Jones came on for the win in his first Division I appearance. The Dons exploded for five runs in the first inning fueled by Tomasello's two-run double brought Rapposelli and Sylvestri home. French then singled, advancing Tomasello to third. Jones sent a hard shot to third that scored USF's third run when the throw to home went into the dirt. Catcher Ed Fuentes then smacked a two-run double to complete the Don explosion. Jones, a transfer from the College of Marin, relieved starter Travis Walters in the fifth, after Davis had cut USF's lead to 5-2 and had runners on second and third. Jones issued an intentional walk and then forced Marc Reed to hit into a double play (Rapposelli-to-French-to-Bob Freschi) to get USF out of the inning (TheFoghorn).
