Soccer Team Ready for '71 The 1971 USF soccer team stands to maintain its position as the winningest team on the Hilltop. With the return of many key lettermen, all strengthened by competition in rugged offseason leagues, the Dons rate as a heavy favorite to take the very tough West Coast Intercollegiate Soccer Conference crown. Leading the charge for the Dons will be senior for ward Alex Robustoff, a hard booter who holds a number of USF scoring records. Robustoff, noted for his tenacity near the opponent's goal and for his rocketlike shots, has been selected as a member of the 1972 United States' Olympic team. Other key returning lettermen on the soccer squad include young goalies Bill Rapp and Steve Carvajal plus defensemen Mario Sagastume, Leon Heitman and Al Werner. In the mid field, USF is quite strong with lettermen Edgar Sagastume and Werner Heitman plus tough newcomer John Micklewright from England. Joining Roboostoff as a top-scoring forward and All- American candidate is senior Hans Friessen, an extremely quick ball handler who gives opposing goalies fits. Top freshman prospects include forward Urbano Boucsieguez and tough defensemen Chuy Bracamontes and Pancho Ruiz. The Dons will be in tough in their conference as the ever powerful challenge of San Jose State looms overhead. USF seems however, to be the most powerful team, in both talent and spirit, in the WCISC and should take the crown. They are deep and strong in all positions, possibly the most potent unit in the country.

If the Dons take the WCISC crown, they would then advance into their seventh consecutive Western Regional championship tournament with a distinct possibility of advancing to the NCAA finals. Numero Uno! 1972 U.S. Olympic team member, Alex Roboostoff, will be out to see if he and his Don teammates can capture the NCAA soccer championship and return USF to national prominence. Mr. Offense All-American candidate Hans Friessen will be out to duplicate bis outstanding play of last season in which he was the top scorer on the team (TheFoghorn).
