Mitchell is a competent shortstop and Chavarria is a hard hitting catcher.
Providing strong back-up for an already exceptionally potent outfield are reserves lorn Reese and Mike Mooney. They will see valuable playing time when they relieve Kevin Smith. Ed Mitchell and co-captains Reggie Brown and Tony Scoma. who often sees action as the team's designated hitter.
"No doubt about it" said Bowman, "we are missing the clutch hit. We haven't gotten a clutch hit yet." Dave Ogden took the mound for San Francisco in the first game and pitched brilliantly.
