Singles by Corky Chapman, John Cunningham, and Al Kirkes added another pair, making the first inning score 4-0.
This lead was short-lived, however. In the Don first frame. Norton singled and went to second on Chapman's bunt single. Here the Gael manager goofed, for he had Cunningham intentionally walked to load the bases. Left fielder Chapman led the Dons in hits in the second contest; he banged out three singles in three official attempts for a perfect average. The Anderson- coached nine completed three nifty double plays that ended rising Gael threats.
Sparking the Don squad in the infield will be John Cunningham at first base, Jim Barbeau at second base, Corky Chapman at third base, and Bob Norton at shortstop. Since the termination of the Don basketball slate, Cunningham has been an added asset to the Green and Gold Hilltop crew. The three-year veteran bats in the cleanup slot and is currently hitting in the .300 plus range. Chapman and Norton prove to be the fastest men on the Don squad. In past games Norton has turned in flawless infield work after being converted from center field. Chapman was a Don mainstay last season and has been turning in standout ball at the "hot box" to date (TheFoghorn).
