Last Saturday, Oct 28, the Cross Country season came to a close for USF. Both the men and the women finished seventh out of eight in the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championships at Crystal Springs in Belmont. For the men, Senior Frank Tardivat led the Dons and finished 21 overall. He completed the ten kilometer course in 37 minutes. Senior Doug Pajer was second for the Dons and 34 overall. Sophomore Matt Bates, freshman Jim Rygg, and senior Andy Anderson rounded out the Don quintet.

Sophomore Kari McCallum, borrowed from the soccer team, paced the women with an eighth place overall finish. Her time on the women's five kilometer course was an even 20 minutes. Senior Cindy Donoghue was 21 overall followed by freshman Heather Allen, junior Bev Rowe, and freshman Marcia Jones. Sophomore John Logan, the Dons' number two runner all year was late for the start and didn't compete. If Logan had competed the team results could have been even better. The seventh place finish for both teams may seem deceiving. USF's team is made up entirely of walk- ons and is the only school in the WCC that doesn't give scholarships for cross country. "I'm really pleased with them," said coach John Rocco, "they finished strong (TheFoghorn)."
