Jon French was born on September 6, 1969 in Alameda, CA and attended St. Joseph Notre Dame High School. He attended Modesto Junior College, and then USF where he played shortstop for the Dons. He was 6' 1", 175 lbs., and batted and threw right. He was drafted in the 36th round (924th overall) by the Chicago White Sox in 1989, and graduated in 1992.

Co-captain Jon French finished the season with a .332 batting average, and led the Dons with 64 hits on the year and 11 doubles.

After SCU scored a run, Tomasello blasted a solo homer to right field in the sixth inning. SCU then took the lead off a a two-run homer and a solo homer in the sixth for a 4-3 lead. The Dons tied the game when Jon French hit a RBI double to tie the game and set up Eidam's heroics in the ninth.

Sky-high after upsetting the Waves, USF found themselves behind Hayward Stale 5-1 in the second inning. But in lhe fourth inning with two out and the bases loaded, second baseman Jon French hit a towering grand slam over the left field wall to tie the game at five (TheFoghorn).
