Biography: Kretz played soccer for two years on the Hilltop under legendary coach Steve Negoesco. During his senior season the team finished 6-3-1 and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals, losing to eventual NCAA Champ St. Loius in overtime. After leaving the Hilltop, Kretz became involved a coach with Special Olympics.
Why Kretz Chose USF: "USF had a great reputation for academics, and was a medium sized, Jesuit university. I shared values with faculty and student body."
Favorite USF Memories: "I was a walk-on to the team, invited by a friend to tryout. We went to the Final Four in 1963, only to lose in overtime to St. Louis, the eventual National Champions."

Life After USF: Kretz served two years in the United States Army following his ROTC Commission, and served an additional 26 years in the Reserves. He was employed by the Department of Defense with duty assignments in the United States, Korea, Hawaii, and in Europe, including as Director of Human Resources. Kretz was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed annual camping and fishing trips.
