Leon Monroe played baseball for the Dons in 1968 and gradated from USF with a Degree in Political Science and later, a Master's in Sports Management. He is an Managing Director in Consulting at Marmign Associates in Oakland, CA.
On first down, Chris Boyd threw long to flanker Leon Monroe on the Gael 10. But Monroe couldn't hold onto the pass and an almost certain score was lost. This was followed by a pass from Await to DiRicco that almost went all the way, but the stocky fullback was tripped up by the last man between him and the goal line on the Gael forty. There was a mix-up on the next play and St. Mary's picked up the Don fumble as well as the victory.
Turning expressly to the St. Mary's game, outfielder Leon Monroe banged out two hits and stole three bases, while "Cookie" Jones drove in four runs. As mentioned, Castro went the first seven while Tim Galli pitched two scoreless innings to finish up. Catcher Dave Praeter also called another fine game behind the plate (TheFoghorn).
