The first game of the doubleheader Saturday saw a reversal of the first game with USF winning 6 to 1. Bruce Zimmerman won his second game of the league by allowing just five hits while striking out ten. All of USF's runs were scored in the last four innings. One run was scored in the sixth on hits by Bill Curran and John Cosmos and a Pepperdine error. In the seventh Bruce Zimmerman squeezed home Randy Zanze, who had walked and advanced to third on Gary Senn's single to right. In the eighth, Randy Zanze's single drove home Cosmos for USF's fourth run. Run scoring hits by John Cosmos and Bill Downing gave the Don's two runs in the ninth.
USF is not yet finished winning championships for the 1971-1972 season. Come out tomorrow morning for one more—it won't be boring. Don right handed hurler Bruce Zimmerman is this week's choice as Player of the Week by the associated press of USF. Zimmerman was selected for his outstanding performance against the Pepperdine Waves last Saturday afternoon in a WCAC contest. Not only did he surrender but one unearned run on five hits but he also knocked in a run on a finely executed squeeze bunt. Zippy, as he is called by his teammates, also fanned 10 in the contest to up his season's conference total to 27. A native of the clean air city, Ukiah, California, Zimmerman has dropped his earned run average to 2.00 or in layman's terms, has surrender ed but 2 runs for every 9 innings he has pitched this season. The hard throwing senior looks forward to a pro contract upon graduation. Zimmerman pitches right and is at 6'—185 lbs (TheFoghorn).
