The USF women's soccer team triumphed 2-0 in its home opener against Sacramento State at Negoesco Stadium, Tuesday night. The Dons received goals from Kishandee Green and Erin Terbush while senior goalkeeper Amy Voiland recorded her 13th career solo shutout. Green's goal came at 13:51 into the game on an unassisted rolling shot from the left wing that evaded Hornet goalkeeper Kristy Milanese.
A number of USF soccer players were named to 1997 All-West Coast Conference teams. Senior Amy Yamamoto earned First-Team honors for the Dons, and her teammate, freshman defender Melissa Lentz, was a Second- Team selection. The Dons also placed four others on the Honorable Mention list, senior forwards Heather Wright and Jennifer Moreci, junior forward Kishandee Green, and junior goalkeeper Amy Voiland.
The women's soccer team grabbed the top spot in the West Coast Conference with a stunning 2-1 win over the University of San Diego at the Toreros' home field on Sept. 28. Senior Heather Wright punched in the winning goal off a Jennifer Moreci assist with only eight seconds left in the second half to increase the Dons WCC-leading record to 2-0. "The ball was in front of me and I just reached out with my left foot to tap it in," said Wright. Wright now ranks ninth in the WCC with 11 total points. USF's first goal came at 23:20 into the first half when Moreci netted a cross from midfielder Kishandee Green. The win represented a crucial step in the green and gold's march through the WCC. With nationally-ranked Portland and Santa Clara looming on the schedule, the San Diego match marked a positive start in the right direction (TheFoghorn).
