    Football (1967)

1967 was the fourth and so far most successful season in Coach Ron Pierceall's buildup of USF football. It was only the second season in which USF faced all college varsity competition since football was resumed ten years ago, and the first winning season USF has experienced in such competition since 1951. The Dons finished the 1967 season with a 5-4-0 record. While the offense ran up 255 points over the season, a usually stingy defense held opponents to only 192 points.

Although the Phil Wantin-led offense turned out surprisingly consistent scoring performances, the Don defenses were somewhat temperamental, holding four teams to 7 points, but giving up 77 to Cal-State Hayward.

Although this year's squad loses to graduation its proliferous passing star Phil Wanlin, its top receiver Mike Donohoe, team captain Bob Albertazzi, defensive standout Ken Pitetti, and halfback Mike Gasparini, Coach Pierceall has 33 veterans returning to the gridiron next year (TheDon).
