Sarah McCandless of Torrey Pines signed to play volleyball at the University of San Francisco, and was a member of the Dons from 1992 to 1995. She was honored by being named to the WCC team in 1992.  She had led her Torrey Pines High School to the state quarterfinals and a national top-20 ranking prior to USF, and was a member of the San Diego Volleyball Club, McCandless was named First Team All Section and led Torrey Pines to the state quarterfinals and a national top-20 ranking.

The Don's serving has improved remarkably this year. USF has three of the top five ace leaders in the WCC. Setters Sarah McCandless and Molly McEnery continued to split time last weekend, playing two games apiece. "With Stacy [Larson] injured, Sarah may have to spend a little more time in the defensive role," Wallenstein said. "Knowing that we have both Molly and Sarah available helps us to move people around.

Wallenstein also sees an obvious need for leadership from the team's two captains, senior Megan Morse and junior Sarah McCandless. Morse is USF's best hitter. Last year she lead the team in serving with 30 aces and has nine to date this year. Junior captain McCandless was the starting setter last year, accounting for just over 87 percent of the team's assists. This year, she has been challenged by freshman Molly McEnery, who also has seen substantial time as setter. "Both of them are good setters in their own right," Wallenstein said. "They both need to push each other to work to see who's going to be starting." Recently, McEnery has been getting the start, and it looks as though that will continue. McCandless has been playing the middle-back position and, according to Wallenstein, plays it better than anyone else on the team (TheFoghorn)."
