The Dons march on! After nosing out the Southern California Trojans, and decisively trouncing the Saint Mary's Gaels, next Tuesday evening at Kezair Pavilion finds the Dons meeting the California Aggies from Davis, in a contest which should help to get the boys in shape for California, Loyola and Southern California the following week. It is hoped that Bill Bafigo, Dick Spillane and Lee Bernsdorf will be sufficiently recovered to make the southern trip.
Trailing 25-16 at half time, the Dons came from behind and scored 35 points in the second half to down a fighting Olympic Club five 51-50 The first half was all OC, with the Hilltoppers playing far below par. In the second half the score was tied 34-34 with seven minutes of playing time remaining. Rodriguez broke the tie and the Dons took the lead for the first time. With two minutes remaining, Lame and Spillane brought the Winged O quintet within one point of beating the Green and Golders, but they lost their chance when they fumbled the ball going down-court with 25 seconds to go.
Next! Olympic Club. Result— Winged O downed 38-31. At half time the Dons led 20-14, but Dick Spillane, former USF basketeer, and Ward Lame found the range to take the lead for the Club 27-26. Finally, the Dons ran up against the ancient rival, Santa Clara, and annihilated them 54-39. The Broncos, minus the services of their center Carl Schroven looked shabby while Rodriguez and Bussenius poured it on to pound the Bronco into the ground. Napolitano was tops with 16, Bussenius followed with 12 and Rodriguez 10 (TheFoghorn).
