The Dons fared much better in the second game against San Francisco State, but still came up on the short end of a 5-4 score. Ken Bowman went all the way for USF, allowing only 2 earned runs to cross the plate. Dennis Yamamoto, a 5' 11" 175 lb. freshman outfielder from South San Francisco, made his first start as a varsity player. He went 2 for 4, one of which was a double, the other a triple. Dennis also scored two runs and drove in a run. Not bad for a 19 year old outfielder.

In the opener, USF collected ten hits and walked five times, before they eventually won it in the seventh inning. The action started in the top of the fifth inning with the Dons trailing 7-0. Rick Restani walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Jim Barratua followed with a single, moving Restani to third. Then, with two men out, third baseman Rusty Jackson singled to drive in Restani and second baseman Marty Cole singled to load up the bases. The big hit came when center fielder Paul O'Leary tripled to drive in three quick runs. The Dons scored again in the sixth when Gary Delagnes. the designated hitter, walked and went to third on a balk call. Restani singled and went to second on that same call. Then Barratua singled to drive in the two runs making it 8-6. USF won it in the seventh when O'Leary walked, Don Benedetti, the catcher, singled, and Kevin Keating singled to load the bases. Restani walked to drive in one of the runs, and then Dennis Yamamoto tripled to drive in the tying and winning runs (TheFoghorn).
