The Trojans sent nine men to whe plate in that inning. The Dons could only send three to bat in the bottom of the second as first baseman Gary "Bear Cat" Delagnes grounded to short, left fielder Frank Reyes popped up to the second baseman, and Kevin Keating struck out. The Trojans scored two more runs in the third inning.

Frank Reyes delivered a bloop two-run double down the left-field line making the score 6-2. Jerry Bloodsaw added another with a single to right scoring Reyes.

Unfortunately for USF, the short-tempered official chose to chastise the Dons, eventually expelling one starter, a coach, and the entire USF bench from the game. He even tried to dismiss the spectators from the field. Even the lone Don run was in question, the officials ruling that Frank Reyes inside the park homer was actually a ground rule double in a very questionable call. A Fred Reid single batted Reyes in officially later that inning (TheFoghorn).
