The Frosh played their best tilt of the season against the Rams, outhitting the Phelan Avenue crew, which boasted six high school All-City stars, 14-6, only to fall short in a late inning rally to lose, 11-8. Sandlot star Chuck Rapp continued his fantastic pitching performances, showing speed, control, and great promise, as he twirled the Saint Ignatius Wildcats to an 8-0 victory over the error-happy Frosh. Rapp allowed only two hits, by Kev Costello and Don de Zordo, in besting Johnny O'Neill. O'Neill threw well but was let down by the lack of fielding support and his teammates very cold bats. Lack of depth has been the main problem all season with this year's club. A good number of the players were pitchers in high school and have been converted to unfamiliar positions.

The season produced many thrills, many surprises, a few disappointments. The fine Don record, their amazing mid-season winning streak, the smashing late-season victory over California, will be remembered for a great while by campus ball fans. The come-through performances of sophomore John Cunningham, Fred Kara, Chick Wallgren (the area's leading hitter), and freshman John O'Neill; the same showing by transfers Koljian, Scramaglia and Mouse Mancasola; the effectiveness of the Don defense, both infield and outfield, and the more surprising effectiveness of the thin Hilltop hurling crew were only a few factors which welded the Don machine into a winning outfit (TheFoghorn).
