Behind the plate can be found either Bill Courtney or Ken Bogden, both sophomores. Thus far, both have been equally sharing the responsibility. On the mound, George McGlynn can start Jerry Eilers, a sophomore southpaw. In the game against Sacramento State, Jerry pitched a one-hitter. Art Quinn is also available, having pitched good relief against Cal. Winning the first game against San Francisco State was Mike Barnhart who sports good control.

USF rallied for two runs in the sixth on the strength of first baseman Art Quinn's towering triple, and a sacrifice fly by Bob Joyce. With two more in the seventh on singles by Roy Reitz and Quinn, and a triple by Gary Musante, the Dons closed out their scoring for the day (TheFoghorn).

The USF infield will sport one of the best double play combinations in California collegiate circles in veteran second sacker Mike O'Leary, and sophomore shortstop, Ray Gale. Gale was a consistent clutch performer for last year's Frosh squad, both in the field and at bat. Ron Pagenkopf will return at third base, where many opposing players will remember his strong throwing, arm and long ball power at the plate. Art Quinn should once again hold down the first base position (TheDon).
