A classy, star-studded infield includes: Paul Torrente, 1b, Loren Scola, 2b, Johnny Olcese, 3b, and George Zucca, ss. Torrente from Sacred Heart, Scola from Galileo and Zucca from Mission, earned All-City honors during their San Francisco prep days. With the quick moving Zucca at short, and the steady Scola at second, USF could have its best double-play combination in years. The four infielders played winter ball in the San Francisco Recreation League.

The Dons started things off in the top of the second when Paul Torrente sent a rifle-shot single into left. Bob Braghetta then unloaded his second home run of the season into left field for a quick two-run bulge. In the last of the fourth, the Bears obtained two miserly runs on a pair of walks, a fielders choice, and an error to knot the count at two apiece. From the fourth to the ninth heat, Lawless was literally untouchable and obtained great backing from the sparkling fielding of short stopper George Zucca. In the final frame George Zucca, playing his best game of the season, dumped a single into left, and was advanced to scoring position when Joe Arenivar bounced out to second base. Then the Dons bespectacled Paul Torrente stepped up to the dish, and sent one off Joe Gaggero's offerings into center field, scoring George Zucca from second base with the winning run (TheFoghorn).
